General Information

The Oklahoma Museums Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was incorporated in 1972 and has over 500 individual, institutional and corporate members. OMA is one of the most active state museum associations in the country. The OMA office is located in the Science Museum Oklahoma in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma Museums Association was selected by the Oklahoma Heritage Association to receive the 2007 Edward L. & Thelma Gaylord Oklahoma Territory Award for Preservation of State and Local History. OMA appreciates being selected to receive the prestigious honor.

Memberships and other earned income, grants, contributions and touring exhibit fees fund OMA's programs. Primary supporters in 2008-09 include the Oklahoma Arts Council, Kirkpatrick Family Fund, Oklahoma City Community Foundation, The Kerr Foundation, Inc., Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation and ConocoPhillips Company. 

OMA Internship Program
The OMA internship program offers 1) Practical hands-on experience in planning, fundraising and programming; 2) Scholarships to OMA training programs during internship: 3) Governance experience; 4) Use of available resources and references; 5) Assisting with general office operations. OMA responsibilities include training/education, intern feedback and final evaluation. University supervisor responsibilities include in consultation with OMA and intern- establish the internship assignment, maintain contact with the intern/OMA and assigning an academic grade for the internship after reviewing the final evaluation provided by OMA. OMA will accept a maximum of one intern per semester.
