Job description/responsibilities:
The Executive Director reports directly to the President and Board of Directors and promotes the museum’s mission while expanding its programs, partnerships, and community outreach.   The Executive Director oversees fund-raising; operating and capital improvement budgets; capital improvements, exhibitions, and educational, and curatorial programs. 

  • Serve as the “public face” of the Society.
  • Oversee activity of the Development Director of the Society, retaining responsibility for meeting operating, facilities and program fundraising goals.
  • Oversee facilities management and capital improvement projects.
  • Support, motivate and direct the activities of the Staff.
  • In cooperation with the President and Board of Directors be responsible for the development and adherence to operating, facilities and program budgets
  • In cooperation with the President and Board of Directors, responsible for development and execution of the Society’s strategic and short term goals.
  • Insure development and execution of quality exhibits and educational programs.
  • Coordinate with the Society’s President, Board (and other meeting) Agendas and prepare Executive Director’s reports as required.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Board’s President and other Board Members.
  • Attend all Society Board Meetings. 
  • Attend and serve as required on various Society committees.
  • Attend all Society functions as required. 
  • Participate in various community activities.
  • Execute all duties in accordance with the Society’s By-Laws and Policies and other applicable laws and governances.
  • Execute other duties as directed by the Board President and/or Board of Directors.

Degree in museum studies preferred with five years administrative experience.
