Speak Up for Museums - AAM Announces Online Advocacy Training Series
Want to learn how to be a good advocate for your museum, but don't have a lot of time? This fall, AAM will offer a FREE 4-part online series to help the museum field learn about advocacy for museums. Every advocate's voice makes a difference in the efforts to reach every Member of Congress about the value of museums.  AAM is pleased to be working with the Advocacy Guru Stephanie Vance to offer the following programs.  Each webinar will last approximately one hour.

Thursday, September 17 – Noon CST  Advocacy and Legislation 101: Understanding the Basics of Advocacy and its Application to City Hall, the State Legislature and Beyond
Friday, October 23 – Noon CST  Budget and Appropriations 101: Understanding the Process and Timelines, and Learning How and When to Effectively Weigh In
Monday, November 9 – Noon CST  Building Relationships with Elected Officials: Strategies for Getting to Know Your Elected Officials and Involving Them in Your Museum
Tuesday, December 8 – Noon CST  Making Your Case 101: What to Say, How to Say It, and Getting Your Staff and Visitors Involved in Your Museum's Cause

Advocacy has repeatedly been identified as a critical area where the museum field wants to receive more training. "Basic advocacy skills are an important tool to have in our arsenal in making the case for the public value of museums. That's why we are offering this free program to the entire museum field," said AAM President Ford W. Bell. "These sessions are important not only to help us all get ready for Museums Advocacy Day in 2010, but also to explore ways we can get involved in advocacy for our museums right now in our community."
