Museum Accessioning and Registration of Collections Course (MARC) Offered in Oklahoma City

March 1-2 - Museum Accessioning and Registration of Collections Course (MARC), Oklahoma History Center, Oklahoma City. The deadline for registration is February 19. Register online HERE. If you answered yes to any of these questions, or if you have other museum collections related questions, then MARC is for you!

The Oklahoma Museums Association developed two-day MARC course will be offered on March 1-2, at the Oklahoma History Center, 2401 N. Laird Avenue, Oklahoma City. The MARC course will help museum staff and volunteers properly manage their collections, by teaching a solid foundation of basic museum collections knowledge.

On day one of MARC, participants will cover mission statements, conflicts of interest and ethics, collections management policies, writing a collecting plan, working with a collections committee, and legal issues relating to museum collections. On day two, participants will focus on the process of artifact donations including proper documentation on an artifact’s provenance and description, the physical application of a number, cataloging artifact information, loans and insurance, loans and insurance, and deaccessioning objects.

Full registration is $125 for the first registrant from an institution. Full registration includes an artifact labeling kit, “The Revised Nomenclature for Museum Cataloging” book, handouts and two days of instruction. (The kit and book are valued at $143.50). A registration fee of $75 is available to additional registrants from an institution and also to students or individuals not affiliated with a museum, this fee does not include the kit or book. Space is limited!

The MARC course is sponsored in part by the Oklahoma Registrars Association, a standing professional committee of OMA, and the Oklahoma Arts Council. OMA reserves the right to cancel this workshop if a minimum number of participants is not met.
