Legislation Filed to Eliminate Oklahoma Arts Council Funding

HB 1895 has been filed by a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives to eliminate all funding to the Oklahoma Arts Council by 2017 at a rate of at least 25 percent a year.

The nearly $4 million which the Oklahoma Arts Council receives is granted to more than 400 Oklahoma arts and cultural organizations, many of which are museums.  The Oklahoma Arts Council also is a supporter of statewide cultural organizations, including the Oklahoma Museums Association.

We need YOU!  OMA is asking its members to contact their State Senators and Representatives today to ask them for their support of the Oklahoma Arts Council and to continue to support its $4 million appropriation. When contacting your legislators, please share with them personal stories of how your museum and community are better because of the Oklahoma Arts Council, even if indirectly through the programs and services which the Oklahoma Museums Association provides to you and your museum.
