Calling all Oklahoma Emerging Museum Professionals

Hello Everyone!

My name is Sarah Dumas and I am an emerging professional working as an educator at the Oklahoma History Center. I graduated in 2010 from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and in 2013 with a master’s degree in History-Museum Studies from University of Central Oklahoma. Throughout my college career, I interned and volunteered in various museum departments and for the Oklahoma Museum Association.

I am honored to serve as your Oklahoma Museums Emerging Professionals Chair, one of the many standing professional groups through the Oklahoma Museum Association.  The objective of Oklahoma Emerging Museum Professionals is to create opportunities for emerging professionals to obtain professional development, technical training, and opportunities to network and identify mentors in the museum field. Emerging professionals are defined as students and professionals in their first five years of employment in a museum whether or not they be OMA members.

A few of the ideas for the group include:  encouraging members to become Oklahoma Museum Association members and to attend OMA sponsored events; meet every spring for a professional development and business meeting; distribute information about upcoming events and exhibit openings at museums around the state; participate in one or more sessions and host a reception for emerging professionals at the Oklahoma Museum Association conference each year; and participate in the Oklahoma Museum Association Smarties event. If anyone has any suggestions for events or has programs they wish for me to share, please email me. Also, the OEMP has created a Facebook page for anyone who is interested as a way to communicate with each other and share information about upcoming events, so please add us!

Thank you!,
