Connecting with teachers topic of Oklahoma Museum Educators Meeting
Join the Oklahoma Museum Educators (OKME) for the annual meeting and program on February 20 from 11:00am-3:30pm at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. Registration is $35 for OMA members and $45 for non-members. The registration deadline is February 10. Register online here.
One scholarship will be offered to an OMA member. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is February 7. Apply for scholarship here.
The OKME meeting and program will kick off with a discussion on creating a future impact survey to help museums across the state with advocacy. We also will discuss direction for the upcoming year including possible workshops for museum educators. Time to network with fellow museum educators over lunch will follow and then, we jump into connecting with teachers.
The guest speaker will be Dr. Dan Vincent from the University of Central Oklahoma College of Education and Professional Studies. Dr. Vincent will explore ways to connect to teachers, what materials are useful for teachers, what are some of the best ways to market to teachers, and how you can cultivate relationships with teachers and school districts.
Then, we will hear from three public school curriculum directors: Pam Merrill, Edmond; Shirley Starkey, Moore; and Brenda Chapman, Putnam City.
Come prepared to conclude the meeting with a discussion on your experiences, good and bad, in connecting to and working with teachers.
The OKME meeting and program is sponsored by Oklahoma Arts Council, Kirkpatrick Family Fund and Oklahoma History Center.
