The Oklahoma Museums Association and Texas Association of Museums (TAM) are offering their members an education travel tour to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Museum of Native American History, both in Bentonville, Arkansas June 25-26, 2013.

Join museum colleagues from Oklahoma and Texas in this continuing education opportunity as we tour Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Museum of Native American History, both in Bentonville, Arkansas. In this first-ever combined members’ education travel program, OMA and TAM will visit one of the most celebrated new art museums in the country. The group will learn about Crystal Bridges from concept to collection to completion, share observations with colleagues, and take home ideas.  Following a lovely day at Crystal Bridges, we will transport you two miles to the Museum of Native American History.  You will be greeted by a private reception by the museum leadership.  After a VIP tour, dinner will be served at the museum.

Founded by Walmart heiress Alice Walton and designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, Crystal Bridges unites the power of art with the beauty of landscape. The collection spans American history from the Colonial era to the contemporary and includes such iconic images as Asher B. Durand’s Kindred Spirits and Norman Rockwell’s Rosie the Riveter.

The Museum of Native American History invites you to “Walk Through America’s Past,” where they will  give you a glimpse into what life was like for America’s first inhabitants.  The museum is divided into five different time periods that will guide you through the constant changing lives of the Native Americans, as seen through their artifacts. Their displays feature relics that date from over 14,000 years old to historic times.  At the museum, you will enjoy seeing some of the finest treasures ever created by early craftsmen.

Experience professional development with your peers from throughout Oklahoma and Texas. Registration is now open. Space is limited to 40 persons and will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Price is $190 per person for OMA and TAM members; $220 per person for non-members. Full payment is required to reserve your space. Deadline to register is June 4, 2013.
