Position:
Learning Center Coordinator, Holland and Sallie Webb Family Learning Center of the Museum of the Red River  (entry-level to early career position)

Reports to:
Head of Programs; Museum Director

Classifications:
Permanent; part-time (up to 23 hrs/week, Sunday – Saturday as assigned) or full-time (up to 40 hours/week Sunday-Saturday, as assigned); pay at hourly rate.

Responsibilities:
Management duties as assigned, of Webb Family Learning Center and Library, and  Museum classrooms; work together with other staff to create and implement relevant educational programs for the Museum of the Red River, with emphasis on in-house programs hosted in the Learning Center; maintenance of all equipment and materials used by and/or for public activities including supplies, library resources, and equipment. Involvement with other community and professional organizations encouraged.

Duties:
Research and create educational programs and activities for visitors, using available collections items and related reference materials; remain current with news in relevant academic areas including archaeology, paleontology, art history, and cultural studies. maintain records of all public programs and activities; monitor conditions and assure cleanliness and safety in all areas, including work rooms, galleries, and other spaces made available and/or used for public programs; train and prepare oneself and others in conducting scheduled and unscheduled tours as needed, arranging for use of any Museum or other collections items for public programming purposes; assist with set-ups and take-downs of program areas including equipment; clean as necessary; enforce the policies and regulations of IMSI and the Museum regarding public access to the facilities; serve as Museum representative to educators, and other members of the public.  Overnight stays out of town will be required. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Appropriate combination of academic and professional experience to successfully meet the responsibilities and duties as described. Generally, a BA or BS in relevant discipline with previous experience with Museum educational programs preferred with a demonstrated understanding of objects-based learning; willingness and proficiency in dealing with public of all ages. Congeniality and collegiality required. Position holder is expected to be able to safely lift up to 25 pounds and personally (unaided by mechanical means) transport it up to 100 feet, with reasonable speed (as compared with equivalent work output of colleagues). Must also be familiar with proper use of basic hand tools and confident in handling and using same. Additional skills a plus!

Evaluation:
Annual evaluations will be made regarding success and/or progress in four areas: increases in number, content, and success of programs; contributions to the Museum’s public image; support of other Museum departments, programs, and personnel; contributions to the museum education profession.
