Choctaw Nation Cultural Center – Application Deadline: August 6, 2020

Job Purpose or Objective(s):
Use archival management best practices to provide development and stewardship for the archives and collections held in the repository of the Choctaw Cultural Center.

Primary Tasks:

  1. Maintain and preserve the integrity of both 2D and 3D items through examination, documentation, analysis, research, and preventative maintenance methods.
  2. Work towards 100% digitization of archive and collections materials for virtual access. Uses digital capture with cameras, scanners, laser fiche, and other relevant technologies daily.
  3. Compile condition reports as needed, manages retention, and updates records in the archival management software.
  4. Maintain exhibits, storage areas, repository, or other areas where archives or collections are in use or storage.
  5. Analyze and maintain conservation and preservation systems, technology, and basic environmental monitoring.
  6. Respond to research inquires and supervises access to archives and collections, along with the Registration staff while enforcing the use and access policies of the Choctaw Cultural Center.
  7. Collaborate with Choctaw Cultural Center staff in access and use of archival collections for education, exhibits, and marketing.
  8. Perform other duties as may be assigned

Required Education, Skills and Experience:
MINIMUM

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archival Science, Library Sciences, Information Science, Museum Studies, or related field
  • Knowledge of museum and archival best practices in conservation, preservation, handling, and care of collections
  • Ability to evaluate risks and enforce access and use policies.
  • High level of organization and detail orientation skills
  • Effective written, nonverbal, and verbal communication skills
  • Good organizational and guest service skills
  • Basic office and computer skills
  • 5 years archival/collections management or work experience

TARGET

  • Master’s degree in Archival Science, Library Science, Information Science, Museum Studies, or related field
  • ALA accredited or have Academy of Certified Archivist certification
  • Digital Archivist Specialist (DAS) Certification from Society of American Archivists (SAA)
  • Knowledge of museum and archival best practices in conservation, preservation, handling, and care of collections
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Some experience in a management position with knowledge of administrative planning
  • Experience with digitizing collection materials and metadata
  • Superior level of organization and detail orientation skills
  • Advanced office and computer skills
  • 3 years archival/curatorial experience
