Since 1970, the Norman Firehouse Art Center, Inc., a non-profit organization, has served Norman and surrounding communities with visual art classes and gallery exhibitions of the highest quality. Our faculty provides instruction in ceramics, sculpture, painting and drawing, jewelry construction, fused and slumped glass and more, in well-equipped classrooms.

Job Description

The Artist Coordinator will be the first point of contact for the Firehouse Art Center’s gift shop artists, customers, faculty, and students. As such, they will support the Firehouse’s mission by helping to deliver quality customer service and information about our organization. The successful applicant will be able to interface and network with Oklahoma and regional artist. They will also support the staff through administrative duties as assigned that pertain to communication, marketing, and the business of the FAC Gallery and Firehouse programs.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 3 – 4 years of experience working sales (art or gallery sales is a plus)
  • Previous experience working in the non-profit field.
  • Previous arts/education related experience.

  • Able to maintain good records of incoming and outgoing art
  • Attention to detail
  • Fine art sales experience is a plus
  • Professional appearance
  • Physically able to assist the Executive Director/Curator with hanging gallery shows
  • Able to multi-task and handle busy retail periods
  • Community-minded and passionate about art


  • Tuesday – Saturday 9:30-5:30 PM. Other opportunities, as needed by the Firehouse Art Center. Schedule is shared by all employees.

Job Duties:

  • Identify and attract new artists to the gift shop, and studio for classroom instruction
  • Ability to network with artists from Oklahoma and the region to coordinate gallery shows and gift shop inventory
  • This position will be the first point of contact with most guests and students; a professional demeanor and sense of hospitality is a must
  • Assist the Executive Director/Curator with exhibition installation
  • Open and close the building, gallery, and gift shop
  • Process sales transactions accurately
  • Follow financial procedures to close out the day’s receipts and provide a report to the accountant
  • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing art, record sales, and maintain inventory
  • Maintain the flow of communication with Executive Director/Curator, staff, and artists
  • Answer the phone and screen them for importance, send them to the correct person, record accurate messages when needed
  • A variety of clerical tasks including data entry, filing, document creation, and spreadsheet management.
  • Answer questions about classes offered
  • Perform light housekeeping duties: straightening and dusting the displays as needed

Salary and Benefits:

$35,000 - $40,000 per year, plus paid health, dental, vision insurance and benefits
