Work Schedule: Regular 40 hour work week with occasional evening or weekend hours.
Salary Range: Up to $16.22 based on experience

Job Description
Function: Responsible for the maintenance, preparation, installation and disassembly of both temporary and permanent museum exhibits under general supervision of the Chief Preparator. 

Representative Duties:

1. Perform routine tasks connected with installation and care of works of art. Exhibition installation, preparation, maintenance and disassembly of galleries. Install includes on and offsite installations. 

2. Prepare art for exhibition by matting, framing, designing and construction of exhibition furniture, display cases and mounts. 

3. Use proper museum standards for art handling.

4. Use proper museum standards for lighting art works.

5. Responsible for maintaining and changing light bulbs in the museum galleries as needed. 

6. Works closely with the Chief Preparator, Registrars, and Curators in all areas of collection care. 

7. Pack, move, and assist with storage of the collections and exhibitions

8. General painting and patching of gallery walls. 

9. Performs routine maintenance in galleries. 

10. May be asked to assist with setup for special events, including chairs/tables. 

11. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements

Education Required: Bachelor Degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND: 

  • 0-18 months museum exhibition experience


  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives.
  • Able to learn and take direction from supervisors and team leads. 
  • Willingness to learn or already has a knowledge in the areas of art handling and installation. 
  • Design and construction skills necessary for exhibition furniture
  • Woodworking skills.
  • Matting and framing knowledge and experience, preferred but not necessary. 
  • Knowledge of conservation requirements/standards for artwork and museums.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Ability to work under time sensitive deadlines.


  • Driver’s license to drive university vehicles, and trucks up to 26’.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Engage in repetitive motion.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time.

Supervision of others: No supervisory duties 

Supervision Received: Chief Preparator and receives limited supervision from Director, Curator of Collections, and Head Registrar.
