Gilcrease Museum – Application Deadline: Open until filled

In April 2016, Tulsa voters approved the Vision Tulsa package that included a transformational $65 million capital expansion project for Gilcrease Museum. Since then, an additional $10 million gift was made by the A.R. and Marylouise Tandy Foundation elevating the total investment to $75 million. This historic project will result in a major reconstruction project for the museum.  In preparation for the capital project, the museum’s collections will be relocated to a temporary storage facility.

The Collections Assistant reports to the Director of Collections and Chief Registrar and assists the Gilcrease Museum Collections team in the management, care, packing, and relocating the Museum’s fine art and archaeological/ethnology collections to a temporary storage facility. This is a full-time, forty hour per week appointment for approximately one year by Justworks, a Professional Employer Organization, which has an agreement with Gallagher Properties LLC (an affiliated company of Gallagher & Associates LLC who is the Exhibit Designer for the Museum). The position is funded through the Gilcrease Vision Project. Work is to begin on or about February 1, 2021.

Under the supervision of the Director of Collections:

  • Inventory, pack, and track the Museum’s collections objects
  • Prepare new storage boxes for collection objects and pack boxes
  • Retrieve objects for internal research, digitization, and exhibition preparation needs and provide related information, as needed
  • Assist with other duties as requested.

Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, History, Art, or related field from an accredited college or university. Museum object handling experience; knowledge of museum best practices and standards.  Must be detail oriented, highly organized and have solid time management and teamwork skills.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite software applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Experience with The Museum System (TMS) or similar collection inventory software applications.

Physical dexterity sufficient to use a keyboard and telephone; carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds; may be subject to extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, balancing, bending, kneeling, handling, climbing, and twisting; must have visual acuity to closely examine small objects, speech and hearing sufficient to perform interact with co-workers.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
