Communications Associate
Oklahoma Contemporary – Application Deadline: Open until filled

The Communications Associate handles behind-the-scenes, administrative duties that help to grow positive awareness and strengthen the brand and reputation of Oklahoma Contemporary. They oversee critical communications with visitors, the media, partner organizations and far-flung audiences. They work with the Director of Communications and other leadership to handle day-to-day management of the center’s website, announce programs on 30+ metro event calendars, track media mentions and more. This position is an integral part of the team that promotes the arts center across the city, state and nation.

Essential Job Functions

  • Research, plan and execute writing, design and other communications related to the organization and its programming.
  • Manage announcements of Oklahoma Contemporary exhibitions, programs and events by writing listings and posting them on more than 30+ calendars across the metro. Coordinate with editors of local e-newsletters and other promotional tools.
  • Assist Communications staff with coordination of media outreach and coverage by distributing media releases and coordinating with media outlets, blogs and websites. Put together images and captions for media kits and event coverage.
  • Track media mentions. Archive and present coverage in monthly media packets for the Communications Committee. Catalog notable media coverage on the website.
  • Edit and maintain all sections of Oklahoma Contemporary’s website. Design compelling landing pages, write snappy copy and drive visitors to visit in person, register for classes and camps and attend events.
  • Create and update pages within the CMS for all departments. Write and edit web and promotional copy, including alt text for images. Ensure information presented on the site is current and correct.
  • Upload and embed videos and other content. Edit photos for the web. Monitor livestreams and other digital programs.
  • Maintain a calendar of events and programs, using it to rotate information and events on and off various pages on the site.
  • Track web analytics and create reports.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and image, both visually and verbally, across print and online platforms.
  • Prepare and maintain records of attendance, agendas, minutes, media packets and other materials for Communications Committee.
  • Update and maintain print collateral archives.
  • Attend programs and events to handle Communications’ and other event needs.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Essential Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a professional office environment. Communications experience preferred.
  • Experience working on websites and within content management systems. Experience with Craft and Google Analytics a plus.
  • Strong writing and editing skills. Excellent oral communication, time-management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs, with a strong knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience managing projects large and small with close attention to minute details.
  • Interest in nonprofits and/or the arts.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects, often with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with modest supervision.

Other Requirements and Working Conditions
May require some nights and weekend work. Use of a computer/monitor, telephone and copier daily. Physical requirements: Lifting/Carrying - heavy work may include routine lifting of a maximum weight of 50 lbs. - combination of sitting, standing, walking and driving on a frequent basis.
