Position Description:
TCM Discovery Lab seeks an energetic and organized professional to serve as Development/Marketing Associate. This full-time position reports to the Director of Organizational Development.  The Development/Marketing Associate is an integral member of TCM’s fundraising and marketing efforts with specific responsibility for membership, special events, oversight of the Altru constituent database, and administrative support for both the Development and Marketing functions of the museum. Strong communication skills and a pleasant, positive rapport are necessary to communicate with donors, board members, and all internal departments. 

This position will have the following primary functions:
    Development:

  • Oversees the planning and development of a goal-driven corporate sponsorship/membership program in support of events and exhibit development for the museum, as well as an annual fund program.
  • As a representative of Discovery Lab to the public, maintains a high degree of professionalism and appearance.  Attends meetings as needed and makes calls to donors as necessary.
  • Lead the planning and execution of fundraising and donor events including the Electric Lime Gala.  Supports planning through logistics/vendor confirmation and support, timelines, guest lists, meeting agendas and minutes, invoicing, and other logistics before and after the event.  Maintain Gala meeting calendar, all acknowledgement documents, track revenue and expenses, and responsible for event logistics and implementation of the night of the Gala event.

    Marketing/Communications:
  • Proficient writer who can assist Public Relations and Marketing Manager with development of membership, development, and event promotional materials including newsletters, brochures, invitations, social media campaigns, e-blasts, and other publicity.
  • Provides graphic design support as needed for museum events, exhibits, advertisements, and other internal marketing requests.
  • Maintains museum social media accounts.  Produces consistent branded and compelling content for social media audiences.  Responsible for creative content ideation while also executing priorities established by the marketing committee (internal and board)
  • Reports marketing outcomes through website analytics, surveys, and reporting.  Makes content adjustment based on performance.

    Event Planning:
  • Assist with the planning and execution of marketing events to increase member loyalty, attract new members to the museum, and drive individual admissions to the museum.  Some events include Noon Year’s Eve, Members Only events, Introduce a Girl to Engineering, Parents night out, family engagement nights, etc.

Position Qualifications/Requirements:
Knowledge and skills:

  • Highly motivated with the ability to exercise initiative and good judgment, ability to deal with rapidly changing priorities, possess excellent problem-solving, organization, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and track multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure with a high degree of accuracy, and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Computer literacy with demonstrated competence in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of business English and math, office/accounting/budgeting principles, procedures and standards.

Education and work experience:

  • Minimum 2 years development experience or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
