Job Description:

  • Develop innovative programming and interpretation for diverse audiences with attention to emerging forms of learning. Collaborate with museum colleagues to implement experimental strategies for digital initiatives, marketing, exhibitions, and visitor centered experiences in the museum. Identify opportunities to promote the museum's unique collections as a meaningful community resource.
  • Develops, supervises, and evaluates exhibition-related programming such as lectures, video/web series, symposia, gallery talks, etc., working in conjunction with curatorial and other relevant departments.
  • Develops and implements ongoing education programs for the diverse museum audience, which includes but is not limited to university and community audiences. Develops new approaches to enrich the visitor's museum experience.
  • Recruits and supervises the docent program to ensure that all volunteers are trained, motivated, and appreciated for the services they provide as volunteers.
  • Collaborates with the curatorial staff on the development of labels, didactics, gallery guides, and other interpretive materials for temporary and permanent collection exhibitions.
  • Curates the Learning + Engagement gallery and the activity space.
  • Cultivates new and existing partnerships with other arts, cultural, education, and civic organizations at the museum or off-site.
  • Collaborates with the Director of communication on the promotion of educational programming. Works with Manager of Administration and Operations on departmental budget. Oversees the Faculty Advisory Board and Art Museum Ambassadors. 
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Required Education: Bachelor Degree OR an equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 18-36 months museum experience

Skills:

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff
  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives
  • Must be able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively
  • Composition and proofreading skills
  • Supervisory experience

Certifications:

  • Driver's license required to support docent field trips, off site events and public library activities.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to reach, stand, engage in repetitive motions, including movements of the hands, wrists or fingers, communicate, hear including receiving detailed information orally or making fine discriminations in sound, and see including color, depth perception or clarity.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Master's Degree in related field preferred.
  • 36 months in a museum education department
  • Experience developing exhibition related programming
  • Curatorial experience in education designated spaces
  • Supervisory experience 
  • Knowledge of Macintosh computers.
  • Filemaker Pro and relevant software knowledge

Supervision: 1-5 Staff
