What you’ll do
Discovery Lab is a hands-on science center and children’s museum. The Director of Sales & Marketing will direct Discovery Lab’s sales and marketing department as a mission oriented and strategic leader.  The Director of Sales & Marketing is a senior leadership position that reports to the Executive Director/CEO.  

The Director of Sales & Marketing plays a critical role, partnering with the museum’s senior leadership team, in strategic decision making and operations as Discovery Lab continues to enhance the quality and visibility of its brand.

The Director of Sales & Marketing will utilize best practices and industry knowledge to lead a team that meets sales goals, creates engaging on-brand materials, and digital communications. They will also be in charge of running the Guest Experience and the Gizmo gift shop. The Director of Sales & Marketing will represent the museum’s brand standards and drive marketing and sales strategies to increase brand awareness and sales revenue including but not limited to program sales and membership. They will also work cross-functionally to fulfill internal departmental marketing needs.

What you’ll need
Primary functions:

  • Promoting Discovery Lab’s existing brands and introducing new products to the market.
  • Analyzing budgets, preparing annual budget plans, scheduling expenditures, and ensuring that the marketing & sales team meets their quotas and goals.
  • Researching and developing marketing opportunities and plans, understanding consumer requirements, identifying market trends, and suggesting system improvements to achieve Discovery Lab’s marketing & sales goals.
  • Implementing new sales plans and advertising.
  • Recruiting, training, scheduling, coaching, and managing marketing and sales teams to meet sales and marketing objectives.
  • Maintaining relationships with internal and external partners by making regular visits, understanding their needs, and anticipating new marketing opportunities.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains supervisory and management staff in the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with Discovery Lab policy.
  • Directs and implements the museum’s advertising and promotional activities.
  • Analyzes target market information to identify and recommend effective marketing approaches.
  • Identifies new market segments that will benefit from museum products; this includes programming and merchandise sales.
  • Prepares effective advertising campaigns based on market research.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging products and services.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to develop growth plans for the organization.
  • Forecasts, drafts, implements, and oversees the department’s operating budget.

Knowledge and skills:

Educations & work experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, mathematics, business administration, related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in marketing and sales.
  • 3-5 years’ of experience in mid and long-range planning.

Working conditions
This job is a regular, full-time, exempt, salaried position. The typical work schedule for this job is Monday-Friday 9 am – 5:30 pm. Occasional after hour or weekends may be required. Shared office environment.

Physical requirements
85% Sitting, 10% Standing, 5% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling no more than 10-30 lbs.
