Work Schedule: Available M-Sat 9:30-5:30, Sun 12:30-5:30 hours may vary to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays for events and activities
Salary Range: Up to $41,000, based on experience

Job Description
Responsible for the supervision and daily operations of the museum's gift shop as part of the Visitor Services Team. Provides external and internal service and support of customer service functions of the museum, ensuring that all visitors receive excellent professional customer service. Performs diverse tasks requiring excellent organizational skills, professionalism, discretion and independent judgement in the management, marketing, and promotion of the museum gift shop. Has responsibility for, but not limited to, merchandise purchases, budget and expenditure projections, contracts, reporting requirements, cash handling and cash controls, point-of-sale systems, and inventory. Hires, supervises and trains staff, prepares work schedules, tracks time worked, performs annual evaluations, and addresses disciplinary issues of staff in the gift shop. Willingness to work evenings and weekends. Some travel may be involved to conferences, meetings, local & surrounding vendors, trade shows or markets. Maintains confidential information. Performs related duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Job Requirements
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED, AND: 

  • 48 months office, clerical, or administrative experience.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of standard bookkeeping and accounting procedures
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills such as word processing, email and spreadsheet data entry.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with customers/clients, students, faculty and staff.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience in preparation and management of operational budgets.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives.
  • Able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing situations; must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Familiarity with digital resources, including website content management.

Certifications: None

Advertised Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate and engage in repetitive motions. Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Preferred experience with museums, cultural organizations, or other non-profits.
  • Prefer 2 year’s experience managing staff in a visitor service environment.
  • Experience with information systems such as point-of-sales systems, Clover, Retail Star, Altru.
