The Guest Relations Manager oversees the daily operations of the museum’s box office, reservation office. This individual will hire, train and coach a diverse, knowledgeable and motivated team dedicated to providing excellent customer service while meeting the museum’s operating objectives. This position is indirectly supervised, which requires the individual to be self-motivated, exercise good judgment and communicate effectively with staff and guests.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least two years of experience in reservations, office management or reception.
  • At least three years of supervisory experience in hospitality, retail or with a cultural institution.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with education or experience above the listed qualifications.
  • Open availability including weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays as required.

Essential Job Functions

  • The Guest Relations Manager will lead the team, deliver outstanding service, and efficiently administer the ticket and membership sales process.
  • Proactively maintain an expert-level knowledge base of all SMO programs, shows, memberships and auxiliary services.
  • Actively supervise staff and staffing levels to meet customer service and budgetary benchmarks.
  • In concert with the Director of Guest Relations, coordinates hiring, scheduling, motivating, training, coaching, evaluating, disciplining and terminating of department staff.
  • Identify and delegate appropriate responsibilities to staff to facilitate smooth flow of operations.
  • Handle customer service issues as necessary. This position is constantly monitoring staff and guests to proactively address any potential issues which could lead to a negative guest experience.
  • Monitor staff for adherence to established opening, closing and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with cash controls and perform basic maintenance of point of sale systems.
  • Work on cross-departmental projects to ensure that Museum goals are met.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and appearance.
  • Assume other responsibilities and tasks as assigned by Director of Guest Relations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
