Work Schedule: 20 hours flexible on a fixed schedule. Monday-Friday 8-5

Job Description:
Provides assistance to the Archaeology Collections Manager and Curator with a grant-funded project to inventory, catalog, and digitize (electronic data capture) information associated with archaeological material in the collection. The work is associated with collections subject to the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).

Typical job functions include:

  •  Inventory artifacts and archival information
  •  General assistance with collections, including human skeletal remains and associated funerary objects
  •  Database work, including extensive data entry and data management
  •  Generate and install artifact labels
  •  Rehousing archaeological collections and associated documentation
  •  Following established protocols and standards for project tasks
  •  Maintaining records of workflow for assessment of project benchmarks
  •  Contributing to various internal and external reports
  •  Working with staff, volunteers, and student interns

Job Requirements
Required Education: 

  • GED/High School Grad or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND
  • 12-24 months experience in a museum/archaeology field

Skills:

  • Must be able to read and understand basic written or printed materials, and perform simple record-keeping operations requiring data entry, logging or filing
  • Must be able to write/print clearly and legibly, and have good presentation (oral and written communication) skills
  • Must be conscientious and prepared to handle small items with care
  • Must have MS Office software proficiency and experience working with databases.
  • Must be detail-oriented to ensure accuracy of data entry and organization of artifacts

Advertised Physical Requirements: May be exposed to some lifting, repetitive motion

Departmental Preferences:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Background in anthropology, archaeology, museum studies, or other museum-related discipline
  • Database management experience preferred

Supervision: No Supervisory Duties
