Position Overview
Philbrook Museum of Art is seeking a Major Gifts Officer. This position is responsible for securing funds for the organization by managing and growing a group of assigned, qualified donors to achieve high retention, increased engagement, and upgrading cumulative giving. This position is expected to work full-time at 35 hours a week, and an excellent benefits package is offered to include medical, dental, vision, life, FSA, 401(k), and PTO.


  • Major Gifts Management – In coordination with the Dir of Donor Engagement, manage a portfolio of 125 to 150 donors and prospects. Develop outreach strategies to attract new donors while engaging, cultivating, and soliciting existing supporters. Research and build donor profiles helping to identify major gift capacity and collaborate with museum staff and board members to coordinate fundraising. Focus on major gifts as defined by the Development department and Strategic Plan.
  • Stewardship and Communications –Develop deeper, more meaningful relationships with donors and prospects leading to a substantive increase in philanthropic support for operations and programs. Assess fundraising tactics, build individual portfolio strategies, and implement procedures to ensure efficient, consistent, and impactful stewardship of donors.
  • Proposal Development – Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 125 to 150 donors averaging 20 substantive contacts per month. Develop detailed goals and solicitation strategies for individuals within the portfolio while proactively communicating with donors to develop deeper relationships. Strategically execute proposal plans and maintain accurate and timely tracking of all donor activities using Tessitura.
  • Prospect & Research- Collaborate with fellow development team members, curatorial, education and the communications teams to develop compelling collateral material which clearly conveys fundraising messages aligned with donor interests. Regularly research, identify, and qualify new major gifts prospects. Work with the development team to build and maintain an active donor pipeline drawing from loyal Philbrook members, volunteers, and annual gift donors.
  • Maintain prompt and reliable attendance to fulfill duties of the job.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a diverse audience in a friendly and professional manner while demonstrating diplomacy, tact, and poise.

  • Strong collaborative and relationship management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage concurrent projects
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to meet and exceed fundraising goals
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and internal donor software; Tessitura preferred
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required


  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in major gifts fundraising
  • Experience with cultural institution preferred
  • 25% travel required
