The successful museum manager candidate will be familiar with non-traditional, hands on learning. They will oversee and manage a team that conducts day-to-day museum operations. This will include facilities management, financial oversight and budgeting, HR, gift shop and guest services. The candidate should be a flexible, adaptive, and creative thinker with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, ever changing, fast-paced environment.

 • 2-3 years of museum/retail operations/staff management experience

• A strong understanding of facilities management and building systems

• Familiar with HR oversight, financial management, and budgeting experience.

• Fluency in CRM systems

• Highly developed organizational skills

• Excellent leadership development skills, written and verbal communication skills with a “do-whatever-it-takes; can-do” attitude

• A genuine passion for training and mentoring staff and volunteers who will be working with families and children

Specific duties include but are not limited to: 

• Set an outstanding example of service leadership and understanding of the museum mission and vision as you supervise part-time staff, work study students, volunteers and interns; to include recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching and retention

• Collaborate with the Volunteer Intern/Work study student on volunteer recruitment, coordination, training and retention

• Maintain a high standard of exhibit and facilities appearance and communicate specialty facility/exhibit maintenance needs to the Executive Director as needed

• Maintain security of the facility, including response to after-hours alarms

• Coordinate all facilities usage and event schedules and staffing with different departments, including rentals, education visits and special events

• Participate in annual budget planning and implement daily budgetary decisions

• Supervise cash-control procedures for gift shop and reservations sales

• Responsible, on occasion, for publicly representing Oklahoma WONDERtorium to groups and audiences

• Must be available to work 20-30 HPW, including some evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and museum policies

• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position requires the ability to do one or more of the following throughout the day: stand, walk, sit, bend and reach above and below shoulder level. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is variable and unpredictable. The position requires outdoor work tasks.
