Position Overview
Philbrook Museum of Art is seeking a part-time Gift Shop Sales Associate. This position is responsible for greeting guests, sales transactions, answering incoming calls, and maintaining sales floor appearance and merchandise levels. Communicates the history and mission of the museum in order to enhance the overall guest experience and generate sales. Must be available during museum operating hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday – Sunday, and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, with flexibility to work weekend events or holidays as needed.


  • Provide high quality customer service to museum shop clientele by engaging visitors in the overall experience through exhibitions, events, the museum collection and history, and programming. Continuously obtain knowledge of all Philbrook products for sale in order to engage customers in a personalized shopping experience.
  • Accurately process sales transactions into POS software and package merchandise while engaging customers in Philbrook membership opportunities.
  • Assist with sales floor and back stock room merchandise inventory levels.
  • Fulfill telephone, mail, and special request orders from shop customers. Pack and ship according to shipping procedures.
  • Perform work activities assigned by the manager to include but not limited to cleaning, dusting, and labeling merchandise.
  • Maintain prompt and reliable attendance in order to successfully perform the duties of the job.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly develop rapport with a diverse population
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative
  • Ability to multi-task and must maintain flexibility
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong customer service and communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to continuously learn new product and information
  • Must be able to stand or walk for at least 80% of shift and lift and carry up to 20 lbs.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of retail sales, sales, or admissions/membership experience
  • Experience developing customer relationships in a similar environment preferred
  • Previous cash handling and operational experience with a point of sale system strongly preferred
