Job Description 

The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the Sam Noble Museum adult and teen volunteer programs. Duties include, but are not limited to, recruitment, training, placement, supervision and recognition of volunteers, in addition to providing on-going education opportunities and serving as the staff advisor for the museum’s OU student group. The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely and effectively with museum staff at all levels, comply with established museum policies and procedures and promote the professional use of volunteers. This position serves as an alternate instructor and back-up to the Education Department staff for programming events during and after hours.

Typical Functions May Include:

  • Conduct orientations, trainings and ongoing education and social experiences
  • Volunteer recruitment, selection, placement
  • Create experiences and opportunities to recognize volunteers, including the annual appreciation dinner
  • Supervise volunteers, including scheduling and performance evaluation
  • Oversee the summer Teen Volunteer program
  • Serve as primary alternate to Education Officers (e.g, teaching, tours, outreach)
  • Other education-related duties as assigned by Head of Education
  • Serve as staff contact and provided organizational support for the museum OU student group
  • Other museum duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, Education, Human Resources, Communications, Human Services, or related field AND: 

  • 0-24 months of training or supervisory experience


  • Must be dependable, detail-oriented and organized
  • Experience collaborating with various departments and organizations
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience and foster teamwork
  • Ability to create and nurture community
  • Experience with conflict resolution
  • Must be able to operate under minimal supervision
  • Flexibility in occasional, after-hours work
