Salary Range: $50,000.00 through $60,000.00

Public Information Officer (PIO) Job Summary
The Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) is seeking a Public Information Officer to join its team. The PIO works within the OHS Communications and Development Division to research, write, and edit various materials for the media, as well as to promote and market the resources, events, and programs in more than twenty (20) sites statewide. The position will work to communicate to the public that the OHS successfully and reliably preserves Oklahoma’s unique history. The PIO will also work with the Communications and Development Division to create media and advertising campaigns for the agency. Some in-state travel will be required.

PIO Duties and Responsibilities:
• Establish, develop, and maintain relationships with media 
• Prepare, edit, coordinate, and distribute news releases
• Serve as the OHS media contact, fulfilling and coordinating requests for interviews, images, and information
• Review and/or write and design ads and other public-facing materials
• Work strategically to create consistent messaging to the public from the OHS
• Track media output
• Manage and coordinate on-site press events, where applicable

PIO Requirements and Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, or related field
• A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience
• Excellent writing and copyediting skills using AP Style
• Outstanding computer skills, including with all aspects of Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud
• Experience with graphic design
• Ability to work with a team
• Prior Experience as a reporter or in a public relations role

Preference May Be Given to Candidates with:
• An existing relationship with Oklahoma media
• Knowledge of Oklahoma history, geography, and culture
• Photography Skills
