Job Purpose or Objective:
The Registrar will exemplify the mission and vision of the Choctaw Cultural Center and ensures that all collections housed within are held to the highest standard of care and conservation.

Primary Tasks:

  1. Managing the operations of the registration and collections department. This includes planning, prioritizing and scheduling workload, designating specific tasks to staff, assessing resource needs, ensuring compliance with Tribal, State, Federal and local laws and prevailing museum ethical standards.
  2. Managing the registration process, including the receipt of items, inspection, accession, deaccession, documentation, and cataloguing of objects acquired for the Choctaw Cultural Center collections and exhibitions.
  3. Responsible for the internal and external movement, storage, and location tracking of collection items.
  4. Ensure proper insurance coverage for the cultural center’s permanent collections, outgoing or incoming loans, and processing any liability and damage claims.
  5. Prepare and/or review agreements and arrangements for outgoing and incoming loans, special exhibitions, or permanent installation of objects.
  6. Maintain both a computerized and manual records collections management system. Manage the implementation and maintenance of the collections database including design and preparations reports.
  7. Assist the Curation department with the coordination of exhibition planning and scheduling to ensure proper environmental conditions and security. Schedule cleaning of exhibit cases to check conditions of items on display
  8. Supervising the work of collections staff, including assigning and directing work, monitoring and evaluating performances.
  9. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:
MINIMUM

  • Bachelor’s degree (Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Collections Management or a closely related field.) with 3-5 years of verifiable museum collections, curation or registration experience.
  • Able commit extended hours as projects demand.
  • Knowledge of museum best practices, collections care practices, curation practices and collections conservation.
  • Experience in a management position with knowledge of financial and administrative planning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent written, verbal and nonverbal communication. Ability to disseminate information to a wide array of audiences and engage audiences of all ages.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and to work independently or as part of a team- motivated self-starter.

TARGET

  • Master’s degree Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Collections Management or a closely related field.) with 5 or more years verifiable museum collections, curation or registration experience.
  • Able commit extended hours as projects demand.
  • Knowledge of museum best practices, collections care practices, curation practices and collections conservation.
  • Experience in a management position with knowledge of financial and administrative planning
