Brett Weston Archive – Application Deadline: Open until filled

Job Type:
Paid, part-time position. Maximum of 30 hours/week. In-office only (no remote work). Position available for 8-10 weeks. Daily schedule is flexible to full days or combination of half-days depending on candidate’s need.    

Job Summary:
The Brett Weston Archive is seeking a summer intern to assist with a variety of projects related to the Archive’s primary function as a critical resource for research related to photographer Brett Weston and his career.

The candidate will gain insight into the Archive’s role in the care and maintenance of the print collection and historical materials. There is also opportunity to have hands-on experience with various sizes of gelatin silver prints.

Projects will include:

  • Creation of a master bibliography for Archive’s collection of Brett Weston related magazines and newspaper articles. Organize physical materials and scan articles for use on the BWA website.
  • Research national and international art collections for inclusion of Brett Weston’s prints.
  • Scan original prints for use in the Archive database.
  • Work alongside Assistant Director to inventory boxes of prints as well as review prints for donation or gallery consignment.

Job Requirements:

  • Current student, special focus on studio art and/or art history preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with scanning software for documents and artwork, creating bibliographies
  • Eager to learn additional programs like FileMaker Pro
  • Interest in learning more about collections management and archives
  • Diligent and consistent attention to detail and concern for the accuracy of work performed
  • Business dress required
