Temporary Publications Position
Oklahoma Historical Society Publications Division – Application Deadline: October 23

$12/hour - Approx. 10 hours/week (maximum 999 hours/year with possibility for renewal)

General Summary: Employee will create the bimonthly Mistletoe Leaves newsletter and the weekly OHS Extra! e-newsletter for the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS). Primarily, these tasks involve taking news items that are sent to the Publications Division, editing them for clarity or length, then creating layouts in premade templates for each publication. In some instances, the employee may be required to contact OHS sites or museums to ask questions about exhibits or events and write short articles about said events.

Key Duties: The employee will perform these duties under the supervision of the Director of Publications:

  • Create the Mistletoe Leaves newsletter. Mistletoe Leaves is mailed to OHS members bimonthly (January, March, May, July, September, November).
    • Gather articles from news items sent by museums and sites
    • Edit these articles and utilize appropriate photographs and images to accompany them
    • Lay out these stories in the Adobe InDesign template
    • Submit to the Director of Publications for proofreading
  • Created OHS Extra! e-newsletter. OHS Extra! is emailed each week on Wednesday morning.
    • Meet with Director of Publications to discuss three stories to include in each issue
    • Edit these articles, utilize appropriate photographs and images to accompany them, and find appropriate links to include
    • Lay out these stories in the Constant Contact template
    • Populate the calendar at the end of the newsletter in the template
    • Maintain email list
    • Submit to the Director of Publications for proofreading

Education and Experience: Requirements include excellent writing skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment when necessary. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Constant Contact email marketing software is preferred. An interest in history is preferred, but not required.
