Position Overview
Philbrook Museum of Art is seeking two part-time Unarmed Security Officers. This position is responsible for the protection and safety of museum guests, staff, facilities, grounds, and collections to ensure security and safety are maintained on a 24 hours, 7 days a week rotation. This position is expected to work day or evening shifts at 20-24 hours weekly; with the flexibility to work weekends and events as needed.


  • Patrol assigned areas within the Museum and grounds to observe, caution, instruct, correct, investigate and report activities in order to maintain order and protect Museum property, visitors and staff.  Respond to emergency situations such as fire, evacuation plan implementation or employee/visitor injuries and perform limited emergency first aid treatment.
  • Maintain an assigned post and respond to requests for assistance, evaluate appropriate courses of action, and provide customer service assistance to Museum visitors. Prepare security and incident reports and records to document actions taken while on patrol or post to report to Supervisor.
  • Closely monitor electronic systems such as fire detection, electronic access control, closed circuit television (CCTV), alarm systems and other automated building security systems to deter and protect against fire, theft, vandalism, and other illegal and unauthorized activities. Must simultaneously monitor Main campus and Downtown location when closed.
  • Receive and process communications, initiate dispatches, maintain contact with security staff personnel on assignment and monitor status and location of other security staff personnel.
  • Provide great customer service representing the museum with check in/out processes, internal and external museum patron questions or needs to include deliveries, and answer phones as needed.
  • Oversee special event Security needs, concerns, or issues as needed.
  • Maintain prompt and reliable attendance in order to successfully perform the duties of the job.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate museum policies to visitors/staff in a non-threatening manner
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding in unusual situations.
  • IFCPP CIPS or CLEET trained and certified preferred
  • First aid/CPR/AED trained preferred
  • Strong customer service experience in a public setting
  • Must be able to stand and walk at least 45% of the shift with occasional exposure to outside elements. 20% of work assignments require turning, bending, twisting and handling.


  • High school graduate or equivalent; Associates degree or technical education in safety and security is preferred
  • Three years’ customer facing experience and previous Security Officer experience desired
