Visitor Services Associate

REPORTS TO: Manager of Museum Education and Outreach
WORK SCHEDULE: Part-time (Tuesday-Saturday, 12 to 18 hours per week average)
LOCATION(S): Main Facility
COMPENSATION: $12.00 per hour

SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Manager of Museum Education and Outreach, the Visitor Services Associate is the first point of contact for all Museum guests. Associates greet and welcome guests, give tours, answer the phone, process Admissions and Gift Store sales, and assist in various projects in the museum and in archives.


• Visitor Services

  • Oversee visitors within the Museum, monitoring safety and participation
  • Assist in opening and closing duties each day
  • Process gift store and admissions sales
  • Greet and welcome guests
  • Answer questions and address visitor complaints
  • Answer phone and respond to email
  • Maintain clean/tidy front desk, gift store, exhibits, and other Museum spaces

• Facilitate Programs o Facilitate or moderate virtual field trips and virtual programs

  • Give in-person guided tours of the Museum, for field trips and other groups
  • Facilitate Free Family Fun events and other programs
  • Participate in organizing and developing virtual and in-person activities for students and families

• Duties otherwise as assigned

Tour guide, public speaking, or performance experience preferred.

• Ability to represent the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and Gaylord-Pickens Museum in a consistently positive and professional manner to internal and external audiences

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand; must have visual acuity to read and draft reports, memorandums, and other printed matter, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

The employee will work year round in both an office environment and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud; situations characteristic to working with school-age children are common; and travel to other sites within the metropolitan area and to rural communities statewide are possible.
