OMA Professional Interest Networks

Standing Professional Committees to be realigned as Professional Interest Networks

The Standing Professional Committee Restructuring Committee and the Oklahoma Museums Association Board of Directors have recommended realigning the Standing Professional Committees (SPC) into OMA Professional Interest Networks (PIN) to better serve our growing membership. The PINs will continue to be an important part of OMA programs.

With the new OMA membership structure we adopted in January 2013 being so successful, the next step in this structure is realigning the old model of Standing Professional Committees into Professional Interest Networks (PINs).  The new Professional Interest Networks will allow OMA members even more opportunities to network, utilize statewide expertise, participate in outreach and allow OMA to support the membership with real time information while continuing to provide specialized educational programs for each PIN.

Current SPC chairs would become PIN Volunteer Facilitators and be placed in the four OMA at-large positions. The automatic SPC board position would be eliminated and instead these positions will be part of the overall board nomination process as at-large seats.

The four OMA PINs will be:

  • Oklahoma Emerging Museum Professionals
  • Museum Educators  (OKME) – will also include those interested in volunteers
  • Native American Museum Professionals (OKNAMPA)
  • Registrars and all museum collections professionals (OKRA) – will also include those interested in archives

There will be more information to come, including a membership vote of updating the bylaws to reflect this realignment.  Watch your mailbox this summer with more information.
