First Americans Museum (FAM) is seeking a full-time Public Programs Manager to project manage First American Museum’s annual events, program series and collaborations with community. This individual will work in an environment that centers First American perspectives and values in every aspect of the department’s work. Included among the manager’s portfolio are the museum’s large annual events, such as Solstice Celebrations and Indigenous Peoples Day, and FAMcamp programs. Occasional evenings and weekend work schedule, when needed. Flex time will be provided for hours worked outside the Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM regular schedule.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be onsite for public programs to provide leadership and support.
- Draft and copyedit promotional materials for marketing and internal communications.
- Manage the collection of program statistics, such as visitor attendance numbers.
- Project manages each public program, ensuring all internal and external stakeholders are apprised of all plans.
- Recruit, train and manage contract instructors, part-time FAMcamp associates, and part-time Teen Guides for FAMcamp programs.
- Review lesson plans and purchase materials for FAMcamp programs.
- Set up ticketing needs in Altru or other platforms to facilitate participant registration.
- Support the process of writing and tracking grants for learning programs.
- Track budget expenses, including accounts payable and receivable and ensure the timely payment of vendors and presenters.
- Work with external constituents, such as community members, tribal nations, artists, and musicians, to provide support and/or talent in support of public programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree required. Experience, knowledge, and interest in informal learning, K-12 education, museum education practices, or cultural interpretation preferred.
- Strong communication and organizational skills required.
- The ideal candidate will be familiar with First American art, history, and culture, and have prior experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle preferred.
- Enthusiastic about the museum’s mission and in serving our diverse audiences.
- Knowledgeable about Native arts, culture, and history—especially among the 39 tribes in Oklahoma today
- Patient and flexible with a focus on positive visitor experience
- Positive team attitude
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress—ability to learn Altru and other systems as needed.
- Punctual (this position requires some weekend and weekend hours)
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience required.
- Prior experience working with a gallery, museum or cultural attraction preferred.
SUPERVISION:
- This position reports to the Learning and Community Engagement Director or other personnel as directed by the Executive Director/CEO.
