Job Description

This is a Front of House role with a leadership component in the MIX-TAPE experience. A Shift Lead plays a critical role ensuring a safe and high quality experience for all our MIX-TAPE participants. They operate within a larger team of Agents of Experience and play an active role in keeping participants engaged and safe. A Shift Lead is someone who is able to move between positions, including box office, retail, customer service, as well as monitoring the art experience space, and being an Opener and/or Closerin the absence of a Manager on Duty. 

A Shift Lead is a collaborative, motivated, energetic, team-mate with a sense of humor. They are adept at working with diverse personalities, backgrounds, and skill sets. They are confident and self-motivated. They are interested and able to interact with the public. They thrive in an energetic environment and are adaptable to the changing demands of a rapidly scaling start-up company.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have experience running registers and handling money.
  • Interest in growing with the company, including future leadership.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Ability to learn and follow protocols for safety and customer service, and to instruct others or enforce rules as needed.
  • Able to remain calm and composed in an emergency.
  • Self possessed and confident.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to be mobile during a work shift. 
  • Available to work after hours events, including evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent communication and diplomacy skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team oriented environment, while also working effectively as an individual.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and an ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in a team-oriented environment. 
  • Demonstrated willingness to work independently, anticipate issues and use good judgment with basic guidance and instruction.
  • Willingness to be an active learner and adjust on the fly.
  • Willing and able to spend hours at a time without looking at a cell phone.
  • Able to work unsupervised.
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Willing to jump in and move between tasks as needed.
  • A strong interest in working with a company that creates emotionally deep, fantastical worlds and experiences which engender wonder, joy, compassion and hope in our participants as well as ourselves.

BONUS SKILLS

  • Management experience
  • Emergency and first aid training
  • Bilingual and/or multilingual (including ASL).
  • Tech savvy
  • Experience working with children

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Work with other Agents of Experience to encourage participants to engage in safe and appropriate interactions with each other and the art, while allowing room for individual discovery and exploration.
  • Work a register/Cash handling
  • Move between positions as needed, cover breaks for other team members.
  • Traverse the experience continuously to ensure safety.
  • Make sure all children are accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Monitor art experience capacity and manage crowds, traffic flow, and building capacity.
  • Extremely reliable, punctual and professional.
  • Willing and able to abide by the Code of Collaboration, which guides our work as a team.
  • Support a positive work atmosphere by demonstrating flexibility and enthusiasm for collaboration.
  • Participate in staff training provided by the company, such as safety, first aid, anti-racism, and more.
  • Engage in tools for staff communications, such as Slack.
  • OPENING or CLOSING SHIFTER (on duty when there is no Manager on Duty)
    • Opening the building.
    • Communicate any late or no-shows to management.
    • Point person for staff while they are completing opening/closing duties and make sure duties are done properly and on time.
    • Make sure the experience, box office, and retail shop are open on time.
    • Oversee opening/closing of cash registers.
    • Walk through the space and make sure the experience is ready for opening, resolve any maintenance or repair issues. 
    • Check and resupply bathrooms as needed.
    • Support all Front of House staff as needed.

Physical Demands
The employee will be required to move continuously through the art experience or to stand or sit in one place for an extended period of time. Employee may be required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Physical limitations do not necessarily exclude anyone from being a Shift Lead.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional artistic environment. The employee will comply with company workplace safety protocols as well as The Code of Collaboration.

TIME COMMITMENT

Full Time, 32- 40 hours a week, varies depending on season and events. (Includes evenings and weekends)

Typical schedule is Thursday-Monday (off Tuesday/Wednesday)

90 day probationary period
